|Sleep Disorders Center|
Huntington Medical Group Sleep Disorders Center is a full service state-of-the-art facility staffed by specialists in Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine.
The center is one of a few facilities on Long Island, which is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Our sleep center has 4 comfortable hotel-like rooms equipped with TV, VCR and in some cases private bathroom.
We evaluate and treat a wide range of sleep disorders:
Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Snoring may be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a disorder in which breathing is briefly and repeatedly interrupted during sleep. Recent studies have found that sleep apnea can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or sustain sleep. Poor sleep can result in increased stress, increased irritability, decreased concentration and daytime performance. HMG sleep center is one of few sleep centers on Long Island, which offer drug-free treatment for insomnia, based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-I).
Excessive Daytime Sleepiness
Excessive sleepiness is a common complaint with potentially severe consequences including impaired job performance, vehicular accidents and even depression. Daytime sleepiness can also be a symptom of other neurological conditions such as narcolepsy. New therapies are available which can significantly improve the quality of life.
Circadian Rhythm Disorder
Irregular sleep-wake schedule and Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS) are only a few of problems associated with the biological clock (circadian rhythm). DSPS is often seen in adolescents who are unable to fall asleep and wake up on an acceptable time. HMG sleep center provides the expertise to help you to manage your child’s sleep and improve the ability to have a regular sleep wake cycle.
Sleepwalking, night terror, nocturnal eating and other behaviors in sleep place individuals at risk for accidental injury, but can also be symptoms of other more serious medical conditions. New therapies have proven effective and are now available in our sleep center.
